Our Preschool

Birchgrove Preschool is part of Birchgrove Public School and is located in the lower part of the schoolGow Street playground. One of the original Department of Education and Communities preschools, the preschool has been operating since the late 1940's.

2023 Preschool Handbook

For equity of access, Birchgrove Preschool offers a 3 day / 2 day alternate semesters program.

Enrolment pattern 1:

Terms 1 & 2: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday

Terms 3 & 4: Monday and Tuesday

Enrolment pattern 2:

Terms 1 & 2: Thursday and Friday

Terms 3 & 4: Wednesday, Thursday and Friday

2023 hours

Monday to Friday 9am with pick up from 2.45 to 3pm. There are no before and aftercare services for preschool. The preschool is closed for school holidays and public holidays.

Enrolment

The preschool has an enrolment of 80 children over the five days, with 4 classes of 20 children in each. In order to attend, a child must turn four on or before 31 July in the year of attendance.

Waiting list

Children may be placed on the waiting list in the year before they are to attend.

Attendance

Children attend for one year only, the year before they go to school.

Meals

Children bring lunch and morning tea. We ask that you include an icepack with their lunch if required as refrigeration facilities are not available.

Our school canteen has a limited preschool menu to allow parents to purchase these from the canteen if they wish.

Fees

The Start Strong preschool program provides fee relief for families enroling children in a Community Preschool in the year before school. 

In 2023 fees have been fully subsidised by the program.

Staffing

Each room is led by an Early Childhood Teacher with the support of a School Learning Support Officer.
