We recently had a school hat returned to the shop with the chin cord pulled out from
the body of the hat. We replaced it, but have since learnt some important information
from the uniform shop supplier that we wanted to share with the whole school.
Our wide brimmed hats are supplied with safety cords designed to break under minimal
strain, as OH & S guidelines and Kidsafe NSW advise that hat cords can otherwise be a
strangulation risk to young children playing on fixed playground equipment.
If your child comes home with a hat with its cord pulled out, the advice from the
supplier is that it should be sewn lightly back on, so it will again release under stress.
We will be unable to replace hats returned to the shop in this condition in future.
